Aoleu.

Am vizitat mai multe biserici in ultimul an si am auzit multe mesaje despre rugaciune, cateva despre daruire (zeciuiala, in special) si niciunul despre post.

Awesome book! Very informative and well-written! I have already begun to make fasting a regular part of my spiritual life and plan to join the 21-day fast at the beginning of 2012! =)

In the past 17 years of regular church attendance, I have heard enumerable sermons on the importance of Bible study, prayer, or giving but can’t recall a single message devoted to fasting. By my count there are 91 verses in the Bible that reference fasting. Jesus said “when you fast…” not “if you fast…” (Mt 16:6), yet fasting seems to have all but disappeared as a Christian discipline in America. filme curve I am no exception to this and picked this one up to learn more on the subject. It started by making unsubstantiated claims, assumptions, unexplained premises, and a bit of pseudoscience. Not good. Let’s start with the science. Franklin takes a very „science lite” approach to his explanation. Not bad in itself, but in essence he talks about fasting cleansing

From the school of the prosperity gospel comes this book about fasting.

Fasting it seems will do all these great things in your life, like a cure for all.

There are many issues with the prosperity gospel and the nature of this book, the main one being of course that it is unbiblical.

There are many Christians who are in poverty, don’t have enough to eat, are being persecuted and having all kinds of problems, the fix is not fasting.

If you think you cannot eat yourself out of God’s will, then read about Esau (c. f. Genesis 25:29-34). There is a reason why, in Matthew 6, Jesus discusses three main disciplines for the disciple: giving, prayer, and fasting. As Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, „… and if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” (KJV) These three disciplines are that threefold cord in a Christian’s life. Fasting is part of the three chord that as Christians we are expected to live out – a life of prayer, fasting, and giving. I came across this book at Upper Room a few weeks before God started placing strongly on my heart that He was calling me to begin fasting. Fasting isn’t as scary as you think it is!

In fact it’s not at all what most people imagine. I used to run from any discussion about fasting and certainly never wanted a book about it. But here I am in the second day of my own fast. God led me to this book when I was definitely not seeking anything on the subject. Though still early in my fast, I am different than I was before. And it seems like a permanent change. This book was positioned to me as “life changing.” While it is well-written and rooted in testimonies from Pastor Jentezen’s ministry and biblical examples, it did fall short of my high “life changing” expectations. The book was shy to discuss the structure of fasting from a biblical perspective (although Pastor Jentezen clearly had an opinion on it) which I felt was a missed opportunity. Absolutely amazing! I had no idea how powerful and how necessary fasting is in the devoted Christian walk. It is not something that some Christians do or should do but what ALL Christians should do. A great read about this under-practiced tool of the Christian utility belt. Prayer, charity and fasting are exemplified as essential to the life of the Christian, not as a tool for twisting God’s arm into getting us what we want, but for surrendering our demands and wants in favor of listening and waiting upon God for what we really need. A way of reaching out when „I need to hear from him”. Learned some, now lets see how in goes when I put this into practice. …more
